This section of the department focuses in on a selected range of titles that we feel should be considered as prospective purchases by music fans into the style of music that this department is promoting. We do this by providing you with detailed, accurate and entertaining reviews of the titles concerned, and make all of them readily available via our on-line store. The selection we offer will mix the new with the old – the known with the unknown and will normally be confined to quality releases. However, just to show that we don’t just say everything is good regardless, and to keep the entertainment levels up, we’ll redress the balance and make the odd exception to the rule by dropping the odd turkey into this part of the shop, giving it a good old dressing down and plucking, just to lighten things up a bit!

Please note: When we feel it necessary, we will compare the music to names that you might be more familiar with. This is done just to help point you in the right direction, but usually we differentiate between the music actually sounding like that other artist or band’s work or just being influenced by it.

Some titles will be given extended reviews with much more in-depth & detailed track-by-track information.

‘Featured Titles’ files will remain in the CD Services on-line shop as long as we feel necessary, or for a period that has been agreed with the musicians concerned. Average ‘up’ time will be 4–6 weeks, then the reviews will be archived in a ‘Reference Library’ partition in the same department, and there they will be accessible to anyone caring to browse, until such a time as they are deleted. The ‘Feature’ can be resurrected for the available titles at any time.

For those people who are not familiar with the works of this duo, these two CD’s practically represent a complete collection in their own right with two immensely long double album sets that showcase every facet of their music to perfection, with, amazingly, not a less than excellent track across the length of all four discs. ‘Volume 1’ focuses on the early years of the group with dark ambience, drum, sample-driven electronic music with a distinctly Teutonic flavour. There is plenty of space and cosmic elements and a full sound throughout all 21 tracks, and each one exudes an atmosphere that just has you completely mesmerised from start to finish. This set features a selection of instrumental tracks that last for anything between just over four minutes and almost nine. They are taken from the first four Delerium albums, and anyone into anything from classic to dark ambience, through to the deep realms of cosmic space music and seventies-influenced electronic music would be doing themselves a big favour if they investigate the early era of this amazing band. Their music sounds as timeless now as they did when they were created.

Held in a beautifully crafted and extremely colourful digi-pak this CD is filled with a vast array of chilled sounds and effects, exotic textures, hot rhythms and sampled voices. Mixed by Raja Ram, the album initially crosses straight over the realms of ‘Chill-Out Ambient’ and ‘Atmospheric Synth Music’ with just the slightest touch of ‘Eastern Promise’ in some parts. As you move through the 11 captivating tracks that are spread over the album’s generous seventy-eight minutes playing time, you start to realize that you are in for one hell of a enthralling musical experience. You glide through a fine selection of chill-out cuts and techno-trance tracks that are totally thrilling and brilliantly mixed. The music never does anything weird, and it resides in a space and time that allows a wide variety of synth music fans to enjoy its pleasures. Each track stays well on the straight and narrow from start to finish, providing a different mood with each new piece, all of which are assembled in such a way as to offer maximum enjoyment and variation of sounds and atmospheres to the listener. It starts out chilled and atmospheric, and develops into an adrenaline-fuelled workout that makes you feel like you just can’t sit still.
