3001
CLASSIC (AMBIENT)‘Ambient World Music’ taken from an entirely original perspective and long before the term came to fame. This album is unique and features quite unbelievably excellent music - It has a fifty-two minute playing time, with spacey synthesizers, glissando (and other forms of) guitar, bass, samples, tape effects and electronic percussion all featuring somewhere in the 5 lengthy soundscapes it offers. There is a futuristic, sci-fi theme running through the set, and the music moves seamlessly from atmospheric and spacey to rhythmic and powerful moments, with a wide selection of tuneful synthesizers, glissando and electric guitars all operating at some stage or another.
‘3001’ starts off quite spacey for a minute then quickly moves into its stride as the rhythmically oriented twenty-two minute opening track ‘Laser Sail Starship’ glides along with all sorts of synths, electronic percussion and guitar patterns taking you on your way. This eventually gives way to a long, varied and beautiful space music section that is built upon layers of pulsating, but melodic synthesizers, and many other sounds buried deep in the mix, with glissando swirls and echoed guitar layers, all mingling to stunning effect. The ten minute ‘B Hydrii’ begins with sonorous, melodic electric guitar over a thundering backdrop of electronic bass and voice samples, eventually giving way to layers of rippling guitar, high flying synths, further samples and all sorts of varied and melodic keyboard patterns. Further along the way it heads off into a vast musical outer space with the five minute ‘Cloud Deck’, depicting an airbourne encounter with a UFO, then it’s into a melting pot of explosive percussion, pounding bass and stunning layers of electronic sound textures for the ten minute ‘Alien Ritual’. The album concludes with four atmospheric ambient minutes of glissando guitar and background sampled and tape effects for the strange and other worldly ‘Alien Consciousness’.
